class: hotspot glass studio

For my mom’s birthday, we went to Hotspot Glass Studio in Fairfield, CT for a one-on-one glassblowing class. I originally found it through Groupon and then read a lot of good reviews online, so I thought it would be worth a try.

When we arrived we had the option of making a few items including pumpkins (it was around Halloween), ornaments, “witches’ balls”, paperweights, or vases. My mom and I wanted something that we could use year round so we each chose a vase.

We then were able to pick out the colors for our vases. This was agonizing and I ended up settling for something very simple since my room is mostly white, grey, and black. I chose some neutrals and mom went with white and blue.

Our trusty guide walked us through each up the steps and luckily spared us from most of the direct fire hazards (namely the bajillion degree furnace). I also really appreciated the many opportunities for “that’s what she said” jokes.
